Conserve Maine Energy

The Conserve Maine Energy campaign is dedicated to increasing the community’s knowledge of energy efficiency and providing the necessary resources needed to lower energy use in Maine households.

Our goal:

Educate the public about household energy efficiency tips in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lessen the high energy costs burdening economically disadvantaged Mainers.

Energy efficiency eliminates energy waste by using less energy to perform the same task (Environmental Energy Study Institute). It reduces greenhouse gas emissions, demand for energy imports, and lowers our costs on a household and economy-wide level.

Improving energy efficiency is the cheapest and often the most immediate way to reduce the use of fossil fuels.

Energy tip of the week

Next time you do laundry, skip the dryer and use a clothesline or drying rack instead.  If done regularly, this could save the average household more than $100 per year while reducing the household’s carbon footprint by roughly 2,400 pounds per year. If you still need some convincing, your clothes will last longer, smell fresher, and you will eliminate the risk of a dryer-started-fire.
